The second problem with the design above was the duplication of code for some of the infrastructure components. Don’t get me wrong, not all duplication is bad (as Rob Pike said: “A little copying is better than a little dependency”). But in this case it’s a significant piece of logic - a custom implementation of a TCP protocol in one case, and filtering of high-throughput data in the second. You activate the Dial Pad by swiping on a dot on the opposite side of the trackpad in the upper right corner. I don't have any ideas for a better way to activate it, but it's not terribly intuitive.
